Hey Petey, You and Brent, Get Over It

It's been a month, coach, let it go.

It

We tried watching and enjoying the Rose Bowl, we really did.  As a precursor, while we have heard many people say that if you do not enjoy the commentary of a football game then just set the volume to mute.  But let’s be honest, taking away the crowd noise takes a little bit of the entertainment value out of it, so the broadcast team voices are often just an annoyance.

Enter Brent Musburger.  More than just annoying, when USC all but had the game wrapped up, in came his incessant drive and determination to win USC some form of a National Championship.  “We should have an ‘And One.’  USC is the best team in the Country; no one could beat them.” Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

There is a flaw in your theory, Mr. Musburger:  Someone already beat them, Oregon State.  An Oregon State team that while finishing the season at 9 – 4 and having a respectable schedule, their lineup of competition and the final scores are not the caliber of team that should have beaten a team that is “that great” in your words.  Who’s fault is that?  Not the BCS.  Not the fans.  Not the pollsters.

We will keep this short for you, Brent, go ahead and keep badgering the AP to give USC their National Championship – other than USC fans, no one else cares who you think should win, nor do we agree with you.  We used to be fans of yours, Brent, but your recent political tones during games and your desire to use a nickname ad nauseam for at least one player each game has changed our tolerance level for you.  Come back to what made you great.

Pete Carroll, our good man, time to let it go yourself and just use coach speak when asked about it.  You lost, you looked great against Penn State, but you lost.  You are not in the BCS National Title Game nor do you deserve to be.  Bring it in a tough conference (although we must admit that the PAC-10 is better this year) and bring it ALL season long.  Stop blaming others for your predicament and handle your business; you seem to be good at that….. except once a year.

Coach, you are one of the characters that a non-biased fan can love one minute and then do something to totally their opinion.  It is like a see-saw with you.

We will not tell you how to coach your team, you are obviously great at that, but griping and whining about things in one game and running up the score in another do not compliment each other.  Use your loss and the football fans that do not like you as motivation for next year.  Just call this season’s disappointment unfortunate and move on.  Be the man that we know that you are.  And get rid of that one arrogant coach on your staff that likes to… nevermind, we are sure that you know who he is.

great article but your theory only works if the pac 10 is not good or if fl and okl are undefeated. neither of which is true. in a playoff system usc could beat fl or okl on any given day. when fl wins usc will be the number 2 team in the nation and it wont matter when tx wins or not

I took that into consideration but did not waste the space discussing it in the piece.

Oklahoma’s loss was to a highly ranked Texas. Texas’ to highly ranked Texas Tech.

Florida? Their hiccup is not as excusable being as it was against Ole Miss, but the Rebels are decent with a lot of talent. That was a Meyer gaff due to an attempt to pad Tebow’s stats.

OU vs. USC – I’ll give you a Trojan victory.

USC vs. Florida – Very doubtful that the Gators would lose that one on any field.

In fact, Alabama is probably the second best team in the Country. We will have to find out soon, but the answer is never defnite. Best of luck to all of them.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who found Musberger out of line and “Petey” kind of annoying.I miss JoePa on the sidelines! For the missteps made by PSU, and even as underdogs, to listen to Brent, you’d think there was only one team, and they should have been playing in a different game. I heard “Touchdown!” when the Trojans scored, and barely mentioned when Nittany Lions did. The game was called a USC victory in the second quarter, and we heard over and over how USC hadn’t been scored on in the second half– until Penn State scored on them in the second half! Penn State did have time to score again… but the cocky Trojans attribute the Nittany Lions scoring narrrowing the gap to USC not trying so hard. Yes, I’m a Big Ten fan, yes I’m disappointed Penn State lost. Mostly I’m mad about the lopsided broadcasting and “analysis”. Would have liked Coach Paterno on the sidelines to give the camera a different view than swaggering Pete Carroll!

Can someone PLEASE help me find a sound byte or video clip of the game where Musberger, I kid you not, said “There should be a rule against looking that good in a uniform” and went on to give the height and weight of Sanchez (I think it was Sanchez). I was already puking all over my living room having to listen to him pour loving comments all over that team as if the whole world agrees. Then, he just goes way over the line with this comment. I’m dying to find the video clip to show friends because it was so hard to believe my ears. Your help is appreciated.

I agree with and enjoy everything that you’re saying, Chris. Nice comments.

KG, I will look. Had I not been in a hurry messing with my DVR the day after the game, I would have that to download.

    I’ll keep searching.

I still cannot find it. Will continue.

    Appreciate you guys.
